What are Remanufactured Transformers?

Remanufactured transformers are previously used transformers that have been restored to the full operating conditions of their original design.

Maddox remanufactures all our transformers in one of our USA based shops.

Benefits of Remanufactured Transformers

If you are tired of the long lead times on new transformers, it's time to look at remanufactured units. Buying a remanufactured transformer has many benefits. They are more available, cost less, and are better for the environment.

Speed

While lead times on new, factory-built transformers can stretch out to more than 80 weeks, remanufactured transformers can be ready in 1 to 4 weeks.

Availability

Using remanufactured transformers increases the available stock of transformers ready to be deployed. It is far faster to remanufacture existing equipment than wait to build a new unit from scratch.

Cost savings

Remanufactured transformers cost much less than new transformers. Remanufacturing also helps drive down the prices of transformers by increasing the supply.

Environmental Impact

Remanufacturing transformers minimizes the high energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions associated with new material manufacturing.

Reliability

Purchasing a remanufactured unit with a proven track record provides an additional level of assurance for future reliability. Remanufacturing also helps identify previous design flaws and correct defects.

How Maddox Remanufactures Transformers

Our shops around the country remanufacture transformers to meet the highest industry standards. Our customers buy remanufactured units because they work and look like new.

01

Receiving & Testing

Every transformer that Maddox remanufactures begins with a full battery of chemical and electrical tests to see what condition it is in, before we begin working on it. This tells us what repairs need to take place in the remanufacturing process.

02

Remanufacturing

Transformers are then disassembled for an internal inspection. The core and coil is removed, baked out, and if needed replaced or rewound. Damaged components are repaired, and any tank modifications are performed. These may include replacing radiators, adding custom transition sections, or cutting openings for new bushing layouts.

03

Reassemble

After all changes and repairs are complete, the transformer is completely reassembled. The core and coil are returned to the tank, and all gaskets are replaced. The fluid is then processed, and based on test results, either reused or replaced with new fluid.

04

Testing

The remanufactured transformer is once again tested to ensure it meets all IEEE C57 and ANSI standards. The unit is then left overnight for a leak and pressure test.

05

Painting

After passing testing, the transformer is sanded and prepped for paint. Each transformer receives a new coat of protective paint to ensure it looks and works like new.

06

Quality Control & Shipping

Lastly, the transformer undergoes a rigorous 45-point quality control inspection by our QC team. They also apply all necessary stickers and labels before it is shipped to its new owner.

Quality You Can Trust

Each Maddox transformer goes through a rigorous battery of testing before and after the remanufacturing process. This ensures the transformer works and looks like new. We also back up our work with an industry leading 3-year warranty for all remanufactured transformers.

I have purchased many pieces of equipment from Maddox ranging from 1000 kVA transformers to 10,000 kVA transformers as well as fused and nonfused load interrupter switches. I am happy with the cost and the lead time which has been perfect for the fast paced schedules with tight budgets we have been facing. The customer service has been on the spot when questions arise.

Wonderful service. Very responsive, offered all the guidance, and really stayed on top of it (I mean, really did so - send at least 10 emails on confirmation, status of the order, invoice, delivery, instructions on how to receive etc). Shipping was lightning fast (to Dallas, Texas) and without a single issue (this is not the first time I ordered commercial equipment, and every time it's a hassle). I couldn't find the unit for the same price anywhere. Overall, fantastic. I wish all companies cared as much about the product they sell
